Background:Silver Needle is such a cool tea. I love the long silver, white needles with the fuzz. Really looks great. The sample is a little broken up, which could be the result of lots of handling and not really due to the tea itself. Some of the tea is darker green color than other samples.
The tea smells wonderful just like other Silver Needles I have tried. The smell is lighter than other teas. It has sort of a chocolaty undertone. There is sweetness to the tea I enjoy.
Brewing:
The water was not fully boiled and I let it sit for about a minute before brewing. I steeped the tea for about three and a half minutes.
Taste/Impressions:
This is my second taste of the tea. I made a cup last night. I prefer being able to have several cups before writing the review. So this is good. The scent is wonderful. It is full bodied and full of wonderful layers. The brewed tea shows off the dry tea very well. I picture a combination of chocolate, nuts, and cucumber (maybe melon). A wonderful aroma all around.
It is not a strong tea, but it does not lack flavor. The taste lingers nicely in the mouth after it goes down. At first the taste is a little flat compared to other Silver Needles. This is an above average example of this type of tea. I think it has a lot going for it. There is no sour or bitterness to the tea. Rather it has a light sweetness to the taste. It's not fruity sweet. More like a mix of cucumber, nuts and with a hint of sweet. For me this is nice evening or quiet time tea. Personally this wouldn't suit me first thing in the morning or during a busy day.
Conclusion:
I like this tea. Save it for a quieter time where it can be fully appreciated. This would be a nice companion for quiet evenings and conversation. Give it a try and enjoy.
