Laura’s Teaview Snapshot
"This is great for those that want to reap the benefits that green tea can offer, but maybe aren't crazy about some of the more mainstream greens like sencha and gyokuro, which are strong and grassy or vegetal. "

"Green Yunnan whole leaf tea flavoured with mirabelle and caramel and sprinkled with sunflowers. A calm and serene atmosphere is recommended for sipping this green tea with its subtle notes of mirabelle marmalade." --- Summit Tea website.Hmmm....this is an interesting sounding blend. Marmalade is typically citrusy and caramel is not something that I think of pairing with marmalade so I find the ingredients a little intriguing. The sample package contains the green tea and lots of sunflower petals. It smells pretty citrusy and sweet with a slight caramel undertone. I followed the website's directions for steeping and actually infused my leaves for a little over 2 minutes.
The steam coming from my cup provides an aroma that is more caramel than what the dry leaves offered. Summit Tea's website indicates that the tea is blended in France so it is my belief that this is a Dammann Freres blend. The tea base used here is very mild, smooth and light bodied. There is nothing vegetal or grassy about it. This blend is one where the flavors are more notes than having a full flavor profile that dominates the blend. This does not need sugar but it does help to kick the flavors up a notch. The taste is mostly the delicate green tea taste with a sweet aftertaste with very subtle notes of caramel and marmalade.
This is a great blend for those who do not drink green teas because of the grassy or vegetal taste to it. It is a friendly green and I would have to say has a smooth quality tea base. This is great for those that want to reap the benefits that green tea can offer, but maybe aren't crazy about some of the more mainstream greens like sencha and gyokuro, which are strong and grassy or vegetal. I personally would like the flavor profile kicked up another notch, but sugar does help bring it up. Overall, thumbs up from me!
