Thumbs up!"The tea itself is bold yet smooth, rich, interesting, non-bitter, smokey, wonderful. The tobacco aftertaste is incredible and lingers for an eternity. I've had few black teas with so much flavour, and even fewer black teas that go down so smoothly."

summityunnangold.jpgAfter the first cup of Summit Tea's Yunnan Gold (leaves), I still wasn't exactly sure what to say about it, and before I got around to having a second cup, I got this wretched cold. At first I decided not to rate any teas while I was sick, but then I realised that a true test of a great tea would be its ability to shine through even though I couldn't smell it and my mouth has that awesome pasty texture that often accompanies colds.

Summit Tea's website describes this tea as, "One of our favorites that brews a smooth flavor with slight tobacco notes." Frankly, they don't praise this tea enough. The leaves smell earthy and rich. The tea itself is bold yet smooth, rich, interesting, non-bitter, smokey, wonderful. The tobacco aftertaste is incredible and lingers for an eternity. I've had few black teas with so much flavour, and even fewer black teas that go down so smoothly. I steeped my cups for a little over 4 minutes, and the tea was not at all bitter. I cannot even imagine how glorious it would be to drink their Yunnan Gold (buds), which is a similar, but even higher quality tea

I am a fan of pipe smoking, so I am always on the lookout for teas that mesh well with a good bowl of tobacco. I've tried a few smoky teas such as Lapsang Souchong, but the strong tobacco aftertaste of this tea would blend perfectly with whatever it is that it pleases you to puff on.

The only reason this tea doesn't get a 10/10 score from me is because I take the companies website into consideration when rating tea. I do like the Summit Tea website, but their tea variety is somewhat limited.

Also as an aside, Summit Tea generally does not ship to Canada and other international locations via their website. Instead, they encourage international buyers to go to their Amazon store.
