Peppermint tea is one of my very favorite herbal teas, and has been since first drinking it in my high school journalism class. I brew it straight out of the garden when I've got mint growing outside or dried in a cupboard. Rooibos is a tea I was introduced to by my brother, who gave me some as a Christmas gift with a loose tea infuser several years ago. What a great gift! At the time, I was moving away from coffee drinking, and the rooibos had a nice, sturdy fullness that to me is somewhat reminiscent of the heartiness of coffee to me, obviously without the caffeine. It was a great introduction.I thought a combination of these two flavors would be a nice evening herbal blend to try. I love both teas, so it was nice to see them paired together in a simple, good tasting way thanks to Rishi.
Peppermint tea has an almost spicy little lilt at the back of the throat, and has a high, bright taste. Rooibos is full and rounded and mellow. These two tastes marry nicely in this case. The bite of the peppermint is toned down nicely with the balance of the rooibos. The peppermint still tastes predominant to me, unsurprisingly, but it's nicely mellowed by the rooibos. At the same time, I still sense that nice little spicy taste from the peppermint at the end, and that's my favorite part of peppermint tea. It's a good match taste-wise with a pretty reddish brown color and a terrific minty smell.
This isn't a spectacular or pretentious tea. It's a great after dinner or before bed or late afternoon (or even a great morning tea if you don't need a little boost of caffeine) tea that won't let you down.
And it's organic to boot! Good stuff.
