Makes a marvelous dessert all by itself or with a splash of cream." ---Merkaba Owner.The Merkaba website didn't provide a description of this blend so I emailed the owner for a list of the ingredients of this red rooibos blend and he provided the above description. My sample package has lots of bits orange peel and chocolate shavings that are easy to spot. The aroma coming from the package also smells very much like a piece of chocolate orange candy has been sliced up and added to the blend! However, I should mention that the aroma is a little more subdued and not strong. It actually does smell mostly like rooibos with a hint of the chocolate orange added.
I just drank a chocolate orange rooibos blend last night, and would have to call this a subdued version of that blend. While I really liked the blend that I had last night, I also really like this. To me, this is rooibos with a quiet, creamy sweetness---almost more like a white chocolate taste, but with a mild orange finish and aftertaste. The cup is nicely balanced and a great substitute for dessert especially if you are looking for something just a little sweet and not overly in-your-face. Towards the end of my cup, I did add a splash of cream to it and it took on a whole new creamy, decadent dimension.
Overall, I really enjoyed this cup and it was an excellent way to stave off a sweet craving after dinner. One of the things that I really enjoyed about the blend was its balance. You can taste all of the ingredients. If this blend was going to cater to my personal taste buds, I would like a bit more chocolate in it and the overall flavor profile turned up a notch, but it is still quite good. I would consider adding it to my order if I decided to get some other blends from Merkaba. I did like the Rolling Thunder blend and would highly recommend that if you are looking for a way to fill up your shopping cart.
