I really enjoyed the appearance of this tea leaf dry and simple. The tea leaves are somehow both elegantly long and pleasantly plump and healthy looking, with a beautiful gray green color with a little edging of white fuzz trimming them out just right. I didn't notice a great deal of fragrance to the dried leaf. For brewing, I kept my water temperatures around 185, to be on the safe side.I was impressed when I poured my water, as the resulting scent released from the leaves was easy and immediate for me to place. It smelled to me of warm plum jam, just being stirred on the stove and ready to be poured into preserving jars. The smell was so distinct and so surprising to me that I sort of hung over the pot a little to inhale deeply of the smell.
It's a warm and richly sweet scent, the kind that makes you want to sit down and stay awhile. I enjoy teas that manage to stay both mild and strong in their flavor - it's an interesting feat that I feel is worthy of respect both in a tea and in a person! In a tea I am impressed when a flavor can be full without being overbearing, and this tea manages that act very gracefully. It's not a wimpy tasting tea, and doesn't confuse or rankle the taste buds with a strongly astringent or somewhat bitter flavor either. A pleasant tea, delightful from first glance to the last sip.
