"Flavor-wise, pomegranate and hibiscus were the victors. Pear was present in the aftertaste. The only major thing lacking in this fruity fusion was sweetness."

I've never tried one, but I've heard it's a labor of love - skinning seeds from fruity flesh. It's a rarity to find a good pomegranate tea that consists of actual pom pieces, likely due to the intensive process in acquiring them. All I have to do is look at the prices for pomegranate juice to see evidence. Regardless, I love the liquid form, even adding straight concentrate to my teas as a chaser.
On the opposite end of that, I have tried pears. Plenty. They were a mainstay when I was a kid. Apples and pears, cliche as it sounds, the taste is all too familiar to me. Although I can't say I've tried a pear juice, or a pear tea for that matter. Given my obvious fruit fandom, I certainly wouldn't turn it down.
The Tea Guys Pomegranate Pear is an iconoclastic cocktail, a miasmic medley of chunks. Likely labeled as an herbal tea, it has more in common with a granola bar or trail mix on first impression. There are parts of everything here; apple, rosehips, rosehip seeds, hibiscus, elderberries, red currants, and the touted pear and pom pieces. Rounding out the melting pot is "natural flavors"...whatever that is.
Brewing was easy. 3 teaspoons per 16 ounces of water at 217 degrees F, steeped for seven minutes. One could probably take or leave that recommendation. The beauty of heavy herbal concoctions is the liberal preparation. I reckon I wouldn't have needed to time it to get the same result - a blood red, punch-looking liquor.
Unlike the tried trail mi-...I mean, herbs, the liquor itself didn't give off a pungent scent. The aroma was fairly mild. By a second infusion, the red color faded a bit as well. Flavor-wise, pomegranate and hibiscus were the victors. Pear was present in the aftertaste. The only major thing lacking in this fruity fusion was sweetness. It possessed tartness to spare, but required something to offset it a little. Lemongrass perhaps. For the decaf set bent on a kick to their "punch", this'll do the trick in spades.
