Golden Moon Tea, located in Chantilly Virginia, offers 31 different teas, blends and tisanes. They offer a Pu-erh tea as well as the Pu-erh Chai which will be the topic of this review.Pronounced "POOH-air" and referred to as "compressed tea", these aged Pu-erhs have a prolonged resting period. Usually stored in caves, they offer strong earthy flavors reminiscent of tobacco, musk or even dirt. In fact, some Chinese tea drinkers will even rinse this tea for several seconds with boiling water to remove the "cave dust."
I suspect pu-erhs offer the type of flavor that some will love and others will hate. I enjoy the unique taste. Golden Moon's Pu-erh Chai has a minty smell that reminds me of toothpaste. I steeped one teaspoon in six ounces of water for five minutes. Wet, the tea gives off a smoky, artificial or even chemical scent.
The tea has a flat, dull, woody taste with a hint of cinnamon and a good clean finish. I added honey and cream and found that as the tea cooled it included a slight cocoa flavor.
This is not your average chai. If chai is what you are looking for, you may not like this tea as it is not very spicy and has fewer flavors than most chais. But if you are looking for something different and interesting, this is a good choice.

I was just checking out Golden Moon’s website for their discount and looked at about a half dozen products and don’t see any on sale. Is there a special discount code or something?
My Rating:

7/10

Sorry, I suspect the sale is over (though I’m not sure when it began). I don’t belive there was ever a discount code – just reduced prices.
