Its OK"There is a hint of natural sweetness, but it's not fruity like the dried leaves smelled, and none of the nasty bitterness you'd get from a green tea when oversteeped (which, if it is a green tea, I definitely did)."

mightyleaflogo.jpgI have yet to try a white tea that I didn't like; certainly some that underwhelm, but none that were outright bad. This one isn't bad, either, but it's not great.

At least, I'm assuming it's a white tea, since that's what the name suggests. My sample packet says it's a green tea, but looking at the leaves, I don't believe it. Beautiful dark green and white-gray leaves with the trademark white tea fuzz. The dried leaves even smell pretty good: crisp and lightly vegetal, with a touch of something sweeter, almost fruity.

However, once it's brewed, the light fruity scent is gone and replaced by something much more vegetal, reminding me more of a green tea or a light oolong. And the flavor follows suit, crisp and grassy. I steeped it for about four minutes, which is a common time for white teas, and way more time than you should ever steep a green tea. There is a hint of natural sweetness, but it's not fruity like the dried leaves smelled, and none of the nasty bitterness you'd get from a green tea when oversteeped (which, if it is a green tea, I definitely did).

Bottom Line: This tea should probably be called "mix signals" instead. My sample package says it's a green tea, and it certainly tastes that way, but the dried leaves (and the name, even) imply otherwise. If it is a green tea, then it's not bad by any means, but if it's a white tea, like I think it is, then it definitely misses the mark. Too bad it's not up on Mighty Leaf's site yet; until then, we'll just have to guess.
