If you are looking for simple, quality teas, I doubt The Simple Leaf will ever disappoint, and they have served me well so far. Based on experience, I cannot imagine any of their teas would actually displease me, and I look forward to each of their teas I get the chance to try.The Simple Leaf's Shani is an organic Indian Green tea. Their website says "shanti" is a Sanskrit word meaning peace and tranquility, and that this tea should have a calming effect.
The dry leaves smell earthy and savoury with just a hint on tanginess. Disappointingly, most of the appealing scent disappears once the tea is steeped. It still smells good, but not nearly as complex and bold as the leaves.
The overall flavour is good, but somewhat limited, and the aftertaste does not stick around for long. I do not find this particularly calming as the name suggests, but it is a touch mellowing.
I would never go so far as to call this tea a disappointment, but I cannot really call it a triumph, either. I would have appreciated a bit more depth. It's like a party in my mouth where everyboy just kind of stands in the corner and intermittently mumbles awkwardly to each other. It was good, but I feel like it could have been more.
