When I first got the wrapped organic black tea snumipuerh.jpgachet I read the subtitle wrong and saw, "bold, rich, and manly", which, it turns out, would have been just as descriptive as it's real subtitle, "bold, rich & malty". This puerh tea is rich, black as night, and deep. There's a slight sweetness in the scent and taste that lends itself to a bit of honey, though it's nice enough without. Its solidly medium body is so so smooth; this is a darker, sexier James Bond. I can't feel any graininess, as I've had with other puerhs, and the smoothness lingers from the initial taste through the aftertaste. I don't have much experience with puerh teas, but this one is encouraging me to try more. I've heard complaints that puerh tends to taste dirty... literally. There is a bit of that sense here too, but it comes across as more earthy and rich rather than just a pile of dirt in my cup. I can also sense a hint of woodiness on my palate after sipping...not like hojicha, that has a dried hot sauna wood that I don't like (at least not in my mouth), but this one is more like a drive through a dark lush forest. It's a momentary whiff of calming deep green foliage and damp woods that's simultaneously calming and enriching. I also had this iced and love it. So far, out of the admittedly very few puerhs I've tried, this is one I'm inclined to have over and over.

  1. Chloe Says:

Numi Emperor Puerh Tea has a mellow, smooth buttery flavor. The better of the Chocolate Puerh and Magnolia Puerh. Numi Mint Puerh not available for purchase. The Emperor Puerh also tastes yummy after its cooled to room temperature or even chilled. The Puerh tea flavor resonates and is robust in hot, room and cold temperatures.
