Geoff’s Teaview Snapshot
"By the second infusion, the creaminess I smelled gave way to the taste, taking me back to those snot-nosed toddler days.

One of my fondest memories of growing up was having homemade custard at my great-grandmother's house. I never knew how she made it, never got the recipe. After she died, the flavor and scent became the stuff of memories. The closest product to it was tapioca pudding, but even that paled in comparison. Then I found it again in an unassuming teabag.Numi's Magnolia Pu-erh is exactly as it's described; made from black pu-erh, and green tea scented with magnolia flowers. I can't say I recall what a magnolia even smelled like aside from a trip to a garden. Even then it didn't stick out. Next time, however, I'll pay closer attention. That scent - along with an earthy tea - can only be compared to a dessert. In this case, one I haven't had since I was a child; tapioca custard.
When infused, the liquor also gave off this creamy aroma. Without even sipping the tea, I knew I could go all day just sniffing the bag or the drink itself. The taste was a different beast altogether, though. Still good, but not cake-like, it had a distinctively pu-erh (read: dirt-black) taste with floral trappings dominating. I couldn't make out the green tea, though. By the second infusion, the creaminess I smelled gave way to the taste, taking me back to those snot-nosed toddler days.
Tea is often called a journey or form of meditation, strikingly therapeutic. I've paid the theory lip service, but never actually experienced it firsthand. Kind of like being in love.
Well, I love this tea...so I guess that counts for something.
