Rishi's Osmanthus Silver Needle is an exquisite tea, and one that had won me over after only the first whiff. The tea has two simple ingredients: certified organic and fair-trade silver needle white tea and certified osmanthus flowers. I brewed the tea following Rishi's instructions, steeping 2 tablespoons of the blend for 5 minutes in 180-degree water. The brewed liquid was slightly lighter than the color of apple juice and emitted a wonderful peach-floral aroma. The flavor of this tea was very sweet and fruity, with a hint of flowery notes. The floral element is more obvious in the scent than in the flavor, which I always find to be a plus, as I don't enjoy tasting flowers. For a white tea, this blend has a little more body than other more delicate white teas I have had, but I would still classify it as a mild tea. I found this tea to be truly enjoyable. Previously, I had had an osmanthus-green tea blend, but I found that the delicate white tea flavor balanced out the fruity-floral osmanthus flavor better than the more vegetal green tea did. Rishi's white tea base is clearly of excellent quality, and the balance of tea leaves to osmanthus flowers is perfect. I infused my leaves for a second brew and found this cup, although equally enjoyable, different in flavor, mainly offering fruity overtones and a very subtle, almost undetectable floral note. I would definitely recommend this tea to others, regardless of whether they prefer floral teas, fruity teas, or unflavored teas, as I think that this product has qualities that will appeal to everyone. I do hope to purchase some of this for myself, as I really loved this tea and see this as the perfect lazy afternoon brew. As with many Rishi teas, this blend is a little on the expensive side ($29.00 for 1/4 pound), but I've also found that with Rishi teas, the higher quality products are well worth the cost.
