jingearlgrey1Jing Tea offers some marvelously scented teas, beautiful of leaf, too. Their Earl Grey blend is no different. The dark, short, twisty leaves are interspersed with blue and straw colored petals, and has an intensely citrusy scent with high lemony notes, a really potent and tangy bergamot. When brewing, the straw colored petals float to the top of the brewing basket like little stars, expanding during the steep almost like slow motion fireworks in miniature. Very pretty!!

I steeped for a standard 3 minutes, which is my usual steep time on black teas first infusion. Jing chose a nice strong black tea which is well paired with the high scenting of citrusy bergamot, making for a complex cup of tea that doesn't go over the Earl Grey top into total bergamot overload. It's brisk and bright, perfect for a cold morning.

This was a very brightening, surprisingly light tea, with a milder taste than I would have supposed from the scent of the dry leaf. As the dry leaf had a highly perfumed scenting to it, this was a great balance. I had two fine infusions and a third, weaker infusion. But the first two infusions were really super. Very enjoyable, very bright and citrusy tea.

I made ice cubes from this tea and served it to my husbands friends in their whisky tumblers…… actually worked a treat. But apart from that I really loved this tea…I agree its a very pretty tea to watch unfurl as it brews. Very nice, mild yet tangy.
