Its OK"This flavor is spicy, much spicier than one would reasonably expect from a plain vanilla blend. The vanilla flavor, as a result, was much less detectable than I hoped it to be. Those searching for an intense vanilla flavor will likely be disappointed but if you are looking for a spicy tea with subtle vanilla undertones, give this one a try. "

kokomoveryvanilla1Vanilla is one of those flavorings that just pairs naturally well with black tea, and so I am always happy to try a new take on a vanilla-flavored black tea. Today, I had the opportunity to sample a tea called "Very Vanilla", from the Kokomo Tea company. This was my first experience with a Kokomo tea product. Kokomo's website describes the tea as suchs "This highly flavorful black tea blend is a light body, full leaf Assam tea blended with authentic Mexican vanilla bean. Unlike any other vanilla flavored tea you have ever tasted, this vanilla is smooth and sweet without being either overpowering or dreadfully dull.". Appearance-wise, this tea is very attractive, containing black leaves as well as mallow blossoms. The scent of the dry blend suggests sweet vanilla paired with a chai-like spice, perhaps ginger or cardamom. The website gives no information about the ingredients (other than the vanilla) so I couldn't confirm whether or not this tea included any spices. After tasting the brewed tea, however, I am almost certain that the ingredient list HAS to include more than black tea, vanilla, and mallow blossoms. This flavor is spicy, much spicier than one would reasonably expect from a plain vanilla blend. The vanilla flavor, as a result, was much less detectable than I hoped it to be. Although the tea was sweet enough on its own, I did need to add milk to tone down the spiciness. With the addition of milk, this tea was quite rich and creamy, but only increased its similarities to chai. This tea wasn't bad, but I don't think it really lived up to its name because the vanilla was so subtle and some other chai-like spiciness was the dominant flavor that I could detect. This certainly does not qualify as my favortie vanilla tea, but I would drink it again if it was offered to me. Those searching for an intense vanilla flavor will likely be disappointed but if you are looking for a spicy tea with subtle vanilla undertones, give this one a try.
