Jing has an exquisite logo, an attractive website and some cool looking containers. The company boasts of “teas, grown in time honoured gardens, skillfully hand-processed then vacuum-packed at source for unmatched freshness.” Their website also claims to offer rare teas that are usually sold only in the country of origin. Finally, their teas are served in some rather upscale department stores, restaurants and hotels. I can only hope they are not serving JING’s Assam Breakfast. The dry leaves have a smell that includes tobacco, dried apples and cocoa. When wet, this same smell seems to retreat deep inside the leaves for a rather distant, far away or faint scent.
I steeped one teaspoon of the tea for three minutes in six ounces of water. This produced a slightly bitter cup of tea that was missing the malty flavor I expect from an Assam. The second steeping was smoother and less bitter, but not a great cup of tea.
I tried my third cup with less tea, but created a very thin drink with virtually no body. It was not bitter, but it also had little flavor. It had a thin flat taste.
I had made a different brand Assam a few hours earlier which was quite good. So I feel I was able to make an a fair assessment. This is not a tea I can recommend.

Hi Jo,
Thanks for the review. I’m sorry that you found the tea disappointing however I think we might not have been specific enough with our infusion instructions on our website. We would suggest using 1-2 teaspoons/250 – 300ml (roughly 10oz) and infusing for three minutes. I think with these measurements you would have had a more enjoyable cup and (I hope!) would see this tea in the same light as the other reviewers here have.
Thanks and regards,
David (JING Tea)

Ugh! Not impressed. Plenty of other breakfast blends out there. This category is getting difficult with so many choices. This one tasted very stale and bland.

Totally agree with reviewer. Jing Assam tea is very lackadaisical and bland. It certainly doesn’t match all the dubious claims about their premium quality teas they make on their website.
My Rating:

4/10
