Thumbs up!"I don't think this is something that I would personally buy in large quantities as assam is not something that I can drink regularly, but I am willing to bet I will pick some of this up again (probably in sample sizes) because the coconut is Outstanding!"

black-assam.jpg"Our hearty Assam Breakfast India Black tea highlighted with organic coconut is a robust and uplifting cup. A perfect balance of the bold richness of the black tea and the subtle sweetness of the coconut make a totally savory cup. Very addictive." ---Zhi Tea website.

After having read reviews of this by fellow reviewers Anne & Vanessa, I have been dying to try this. However, assam is a tea base that is little strong to me and not one that I typically seek out to purchase. That said, I am sucker for anything coconut. My sample smells heavenly. It has little shreds of lightly toasted coconut in it and if aroma is indication of the flavor, this should be quite tasty. An initial concern is can coconut be a detectable flavor in an assam tea base? For me to want to drink assam, I am gonna have to be rewarded with a pretty flavorful coconut taste.

The aroma of the steam coming from my cup also promises a flavorful coconut experience. I have to say that Zhi delivers. I started off drinking this plain. Miraculously the coconut is able to standout and balance itself with the assam nicely. However, after a few sips my wimpy tongue began to beg for a mercy in the form of milk and sugar. The sugar makes the coconut stand out a little more and the milk makes it creamier and more palatable I think other tea companies could take lessons from Zhi on how to do coconut tea (and I wish they would).

This is a great dessert tea for lovers of strong brews and coconut. I do wish that it was offered with a friendlier tea base, but milk and sugar make it more palatable. That said, my tongue continued to suffer from the effects of the astringency of the assam for hours after consuming this. I don't think this is something that I would personally buy in large quantities as assam is not something that I can drink regularly, but I am willing to bet I will pick some of this up again (probably in sample sizes) because the coconut is Outstanding! Now I MUST try Zhi's Coconut Chai!!!
