I love a good herbal muck.Okay, maybe "muck" isn't the most desirable word use. Perhaps "medley" works better. Eh, well...I use that too much. Smorgasbord, medley, infusion, fusion...even stu. I'm running out of words.
Let's go with "muckley" for now - a cross of medley and muck.
This herbal muckley from Tea Zone - called Citrus Lemon - contains lemongrass, orange peel, rosebuds and mints as ingredients. Not just one mint, but mints plural. If I were to say which possible mint was dominant by the smell alone, that would be peppermint. Whiffing the dry batch was like being sprayed with powdered Altoid. I almost sneezed. Lemongrass came in second, but not as much for citrus tones.
Instructions state to use 1-to-2 teaspoons per one cup of water. I always biff it on what constitutes a "cup" anymore. Plus, I was at work when trying this, didn't have my handy-dandy strainer. As a substitute, I used a stainless steel herbal ball. I wouldn't recommend it. Since some of the dry leaves are grain small, herbal bits are bound to leak out into the liquor. And some did, but not to the detriment of the drink; thank the Tea Gods.
The liquor brewed to a deep olive color, and the sneeze-inducing scent calmed a bit upon infusion. The citrus and lemon tones are very present with a topical mint layer to the aftertaste; not overbearing in the least. It is strangely calming, instilling an instant "mmmmm" - as most muckleys are supposed to. I would say this is first and foremost a lemongrass tea with mint used as a seasoning. A darn good one, though. Give it a whirl.
