Laura’s Teaview Snapshot
"I have yet to prepare it that way, but I can imagine that the latte version is total Coconut Cream Pie in a cup because it is very close even with just added milk and sugar as ingredients. "

52 Teas is the brain-child of the owner of a tea shop called Zoomdweebie's in Wichita, KS. 52 Teas uses the concept of offering a new, limited-edition blend each week. Many of the blend ideas come from fellow tea drinkers and are shipped to your door in 2 oz pouches for $7 total (includes shipping). Frank, the owner of both operations, fell ill one week and wasn't up to making a new unique creation for 52 Teas and decided to just offer one of Zoom's best-sellers, Coconut Cream Pie Black Tea, as an offering for the Tea of the Week (TOTW) for 52 Teas. Did you follow that? Stay with me.Anyway, being one of the world's biggest coconut tea fans, I HAD to order some. The ingredients in this blend are simple: black tea, coconut flakes, natural and/or artificial flavors. I have tinkered with my preparation specs a little over the course of about 10 cups of this now. I find that I like to use a heavy hand when scooping my tea and prepare it in water than has been brought to a full boil. I prefer this best when infused only about 3 min. While the dry blend smells plenty fragrant, it really doesn't do the true flavor of the cup justice---this has a very full flavor profile that screams of coconut! That is just the way I like it btw! This blend doesn't actually taste bad without any milk or sugar, but this is just one of those blends (like chai) that is meant to be consumed with the addition of some milk and sugar. You could also prepare this as a latte and Frank (owner) has shared a fat-free latte recipe on the 52 Teas website http://www.52teas.com/2009/02/22/022209-coconut-cream-pie-flavored-black-tea . I have yet to prepare it that way, but I can imagine that the latte version is total Coconut Cream Pie in a cup because it is very close even with just added milk and sugar as ingredients.
Overall, this blend is very well done. It has a delicious, full-flavored coconut taste. If you want some in-your-face coconut, then this is a good choice. This blend provides a very dessert-like experience and is one that I will definitely order again. Luckily this is not one of 52 Teas limited edition blends and can be purchased through Zoomdweebie's anytime!

Okay, okay, I may be a tea purist, but I’m also a coconut cream pie head. (Hmm, I think that came out wrong. Or not.)
I’ll try it!
