Golden Moon Tea, located in Chantilly Virginia, offers 31 different teas, blends and tisanes. They describe their Irish Breakfast Special Reserve as large, well crafted and ultra-premium estate tea leaves which come together to create a connoisseur's breakfast tea. Theyʼre right!The tea has a fruity, smoky smell that reminds me of tobacco. I steeped one teaspoon in 180 degree water for 4 four minutes. This produced a drink with an inviting dark chocolate flavor. As it cooled I picked up a cherry scent which along with the subtle but smoky taste reminded me of a Danish tobacco called Borkum Riff.
I particularly like that this tea starts out with a hint of sweetness and then each subsequent sip slowly morphs into equally enjoyable, but slightly different flavors.
This is a connoisseurʼs breakfast tea and worthy of the special reserve label, but unfortunately these leaves havenʼt the stamina to make it to a second steeping. They run out of flavor leaving a tasteless broth. Nevertheless even if you donʼt like breakfast teas, I would still suggest giving this one a try.
