Provence Vanilla Rooibos is a house-blend from the good folks at the Seattle Teacup. According to their website, the "Teacuppers" developed this blend in response to their customers asking for more varieties of rooibos tea. With a name like Provence Vanilla Rooibos, it is no surprise that this tea features rooibos blended with lavender and vanilla flavors. Not indicated by the name, but also contributing to this delicious cup of tea, however, are sparse bits of chamomile and a hint of hazelnut. This is one of those teas that just smells wonderful, and as soon as I sniffed it, I knew this one would be a keeper. The flavor is rich and inviting, and instantly addicting. The most noticeable ingredient is the vanilla, which is a sweet and creamy vanilla. The lavender is a very subtle component of this tea, although in my opinion that is a good thing (I tend to thing of lavender as an ingredient that should be smelled, not tasted). The chamomile, because it is so sparse in the blend, offers a hint of apple-y sweetness without dominating the cup. And of course, that little bit of hazelnut melds so well with the nutty rooibos. The four flavors blend surprisingly well. I added a spoonful of cane sugar to really bring out the flavors, and found myself enjoying a near-perfect cup of tea. This is a blend that I intend to purchase, and also one I will recommend to others. This blend offers fruity, floral, and nutty flavors, with a fairly limited sweetness. Those who prefer less sweet teas will really like this tea just as it is; others, like me, will find that adding just a splash of sweetener makes for a most enjoyable cup of tea.
