"The peppermint leaves and the peppermint oil provide an intense minty flavor which is deep and invigorating. The rooibos, being a more subtle flavor, takes the backseat on the flavor profile, but certainly lends a much-needed sweetness to the tea."

Rishi's peppermint rooibos seems, from initial appearance and description, to be a fairly simple and unimpressive blend of rooibos and peppermint. The Rishi website elaborates that the blend consists of organic fair trade certified rooibos, organic peppermint, as well as natural essential oils of bergamot and peppermint. Although I have had lots of rooibos tea and plenty of peppermint teas and blends, I actually had not had something this simple before, as it seems that a common occurrence for herbal blends nowadays is to cram as many ingredients as is humanly possible into one cup of tea. Thus, I was quite looking forward to this herbal blend for its lack of complexity. This tea met my expectations: the peppermint leaves and the peppermint oil provide an intense minty flavor which is deep and invigorating. The rooibos, being a more subtle flavor, takes the backseat on the flavor profile, but certainly lends a much-needed sweetness to the tea. The marriage of rooibos and peppermint results in a sweet-mint flavor that I found to be quite delightful. Although there is oil of bergamot added to this tea, I suspect that it must be in fairly small amounts, as it was almost (thankfully) undetectable. I had this tea first thing in the morning, and even though this is a caffeine-free blend, the flavors were so fresh that it served well as a morning pick-me-up tea. I also tried this blend as an iced tea and found it to be extremely refreshing. I imagine that having a pitcher of this iced tea, complemented with some lime wedges and fresh mint leaves, would make for a perfect summertime beverage. This tea is pretty tasty, and it is the simplicity of the blend that does it well. Rather than trying to offer every herb known to man, this blend offers two nicely balanced herbal ingredients. With that said, you should be aware that this tea lacks any large "wow factor': it is what it is, and what you would expect from mixing these two ingredients. If you are in the market for a complex herbal blend, this probably won't be what you want. But if you are looking for a simple and refreshing blend, I would recommend this tea. At $9.75 for 4 ounces, Rishi's Peppermint Rooibos is a decent value, especially considering that the tea contains fair-trade and organic ingredients.
