"This is a blend of rooibos and apple pieces, accented with caramel bits. This tea reminds me of theme parks as a child eating a sweet and sticky caramel dipped apple." ---The Necessiteas website.I have been meaning to write up a review of this blend for some time because this is one of my all-time favorites! This one ranks right up there with The Necessiteas' Carrot Cake Rooibos. I know that some of my counter-parts have reviewed the green tea version of this, which I have also tried and like very well, but the rooibos version of this blend steals the show if you ask me. I purchased a tin of this last Fall and have enjoyed it all Winter and am sad to say that I am down to my last 6-7 cups of it :(.
Those of you that follow along with my reviews and posts in the Forum are probably well aware of the fact that I love The Necessiteas and order flavored blends from them regularly. Gush, gush, gush and move on. My tin is LOADED with hunks of the extras, which include dried apple pieces and little balls of caramel. I'm not able to identify the remainder of the ingredients, but I am also not one to generally ding the score of something so wonderful because I don't know all of the ingredients. I can't fault a tea company for not giving up trade secrets. I prepare this with water that has been brought to a full boil and allow it to steep a full 5 min.
I believe there is cinnamon in here because to me this tastes like caramel apples with a touch of cinnamon. The thing that really sets this blend apart for me though is the caramel. Maybe it is psychological because of the presence of the little balls of caramel, but this has a delicious and natural caramel taste to it. A bit of sugar really brings it out and makes this blend extra delicious. This has a nice full flavor profile and the apple does dominate, but that nice caramel undertone just hits the spot for me. While there are a billion apple-cinnamon blends on the market, there are not many caramel apple blends and this is one of the few that I have found that is done right. Also, this is not half-bad with a splash of milk for an occasional variation. However, I do like this best with just a bit of rock cane sugar added (brown sugar might be good too, hmmm....!). While this could be enjoyed any time of day, I tend to reach for this in the evening due to the lack of caffeine and in place of dessert. If you love caramel and apples, then this blend is a must-try.
