Thumbs up!"There was a fruity profile to it as well; cinnamon apple or peach, I couldn't decide. The color was dark for a white tea, bodied like an oolong brew. "

kokomoleafbudWhy, oh why, did they have to name themselves Kokomo?! Now a certain Beach Boys song is going through my head; a song that came out when I was in the 6th grade. When I was a fat kid. At recess.

Eh, it's not there fault.

Apparently, Kokomo is a new kid on the block in the tea territorial war. Well, they're new to me, anyway. Their website is crisp, easy to navigate, and the blends are clearly presented.

A Leaf & A Bud is one of their premium white teas. Other reviewers here have expanded upon its delicious delight and then some. I'm a bit of a white tea snob, however, especially when it comes to Silver Needle blends. Most of the time, the less one puts with Silver Needle white tea, the better. The fact that they stated that whole leaves were included almost made me wonder if they were being cheap.

Wrong again. (You'd think I'd be used to that by now?)

The dry leaves possessed a silky, subtle scent, almost creamy. The look of the full leaves with the needled rolls reminded me of raking tree-droppings in Autumn. Everything about this blend screamed end-of-year pleasantness.

I'm a Fall kid at heart.

The website stated to steep 1 tablespoon per 8 oz. cup at 180°-190° for two-to-six minutes. I did 2 hefty teaspoons per 16 oz. for five. The liquor smelled olive trees with a slight hint of spice; reminiscent of the Mediterranean. There was a fruity profile to it as well; cinnamon apple or peach, I couldn't decide. The color was dark for a white tea, bodied like an oolong brew.

As to taste, it had more in common with a green but without any of the bitterness. Probably due to the fruity texture. It wasn't as astringent as a deep Bai Mu Dan white, nor as subtle as a normal Silver Needle. If I were to make a comparison, I'd say it had more in common with a Huang Ya yellow or a rare Malawi-plucked white tea.

Delicious, whatever you liken it to.
