The Tea Spot's Earl of Grey surprised me by being completely unlike any other Earl Grey I've tried. I really liked it, and my husband liked it so much he wanted another pot brewed and announced that we should buy some immediately. That seems high praise indeed for someone that generally is quite reserved in his tea commentary, and really made me happy! It's nice when someone enjoys a tea that you prepare for them so much that they are already looking forward to more.
What's unique about Tea Spot's Earl of Grey is that the citrus scenting is resoundingly grapefruit like and has a real wet, juice like quality about it. Sounds a little strange, but it's a wonderful effect, if rather hard to put into words. This tea tastes as though a citrus juice and Earl Grey had fused somehow in a hot tea, and marvelously so! The dry tea smelled strongly of grapefruit with bergamot hand in hand. I hoped that the grapefruit scent wouldn't be lost in the brewed tea and it certainly was not.
Smooth and enjoyable, nary a hint of bitter or sour to mar the cup, this was wonderful, new and a real treat in all regards. I heartily recommend it to Earl Grey lovers to try and see what they think. I think I'll be ordering some very soon for a certain special someone in my life!
