Let me start out by saying that I am a fan of most every tea that I have tried from Tea Guys. I do wish their online ordering process was a little more user friendly, but as they have had a note on their home page for several months saying they will be launching an updated website soon, hopefully those issues will be cleared sometime in the near future. Morning Americano is described as a rich, full-bodied breakfast tea that is blended for milk. Black tea blend and roasted cocoa beans are listed as the ingredients, making this sound like a perfect combination. I can see the small bits of chocolate mixed with the black tea leaves and am actually quite prepared to love this tea. The directions say to allow this tea to brew for 3 – 3 ½ minutes, I brew for 3. I first try the tea without any additional cream or sugar and quickly realize the reason they recommend adding milk. On its own, it is quite strong, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is also quite bitter. I quickly decided to add some cream, expecting this to make a big difference. Unfortunately, it really didn’t. The bitterness is still overwhelming. The only note of chocolate I can manage to locate at all is at the end of the sip after the milk has been added and the tea has slightly cooled. I’m not saying that this tea is undrinkable, because I have certainly managed to down some that are far worse. But, when there are so many tea options out there that manage to be both strong and smooth, this won’t be one that I go out of my way to obtain in the future.
