Thumbs up!"A lovely flavored green tea. The papaya and passion fruit mix together to create a gentle and sweet taste that does not cover up the sencha."

nmexteapassion"The blend has as its base a Sencha style green tea manufactured in Hunan Province in South Eastern China. Sencha green teas typically have dark green, needle shaped leaves and produce a pale green to yellow, very bright, smooth cup with a sweetish, honey like finish. The natural sweetness of this green tea makes it perfectly suited for blending with our dried Papaya pieces and natural passion fruit flavorings." -from the New Mexico Tea Company website

When I received this tea I could smell it even before I opened it. And let me tell you that I opened it mighty quick to get a better whiff. My nose was promptly greeted with with an incredible and sweet tropical smell. I immediately brewed up a cup and was pleasantly satisfied with a great flavor. The papaya and passion fruit mix together to create a gentle and sweet taste. However, it does not cover up the sencha but instead blends with it. I never got any sort of bitterness from the fruits or from the sencha.

I brewed this using one teaspoon of leaf for 3 minutes in 180 degree water. It smelled as wonderful while brewing as it did dry. I have sadly found so many flavored teas that don't hold up to their fragrance after they have steeped in water. This one holds on to the fruit flavorings with a tight grip and yet it somehow never overpowers the green tea.

I haven't found a lot of flavored greens that I like and yet I am drawn to this one. It works. The tropical flavors and the green grassy flavors work together to produce a lovely blend. I have started to also drink this iced and it is just as good, if not more so, because it brings about a quite refreshing cup. If I could, I would use this tea to scent my house because it smells that amazing and of course I will drink this tea often. This tea has earned a permanent place in my tea cabinet!

Thank you for the good review of the Crime of Passion. Flavored green teas are a tricky thing, and I try to only carry ones that I find have the qualities you appreciated. (Strong taste and aroma, but without overpowering the tea.)

One of the most important aspects of flavored tea, in my opinion, is that the tea is fresh. In many ways its even more important then with a pure tea (not less as so many mass market companies seem to think) because the flavor is competing.

I would also recommend the cherry sencha. It smells overly sweet, like cough syrup. But the taste evens out when brewed into a nice cup of tea.
