zhi-emerald.jpgOolong is a bit of a new thing for; I'd never tried one until I started reviewing for Teaviews. Despite that, I'm a huge fan of oolong tea, and jump an any chance I get to try out a new one, and this one was right up my alley.

Zhi's description of this tea describes it as being an "Artisan Reserve" tea, and it certainly looks the part. The leaves a deep emerald green, like the name would imply, and they're rolled into loose curls that remind me a bit of witch's fingers (Wicked Witch of the West, anyone?). They unfurl as the tea is brewed (my favorite part of oolongs), and just look amazing.

The smell of the dried leaves is different from any oolong I've tried before; subtle, mellow, and, well, "green". Not grassy or overly vegetal, but more like how every smells after a summer rain. The brewed tea smelled like pretty much every oolong I've ever tried, but the taste of the brewed tea was much more like the dried leaves. Very delicate; some would say weak, no doubt, but I think it's still in "delicate" territory, as it has plenty of subtleties that my small sample of it isn't enough to fully explore.

Bottom Line: Lives up to to the tradition of oolong teas being of complex flavor. I'm sure any fan of oolong tea will thoroughly enjoy this one, especially after several cups.
