The brewed leaves open up quite nicely and create a dark amber liquid. I was having a difficult time coming up with a description of the aroma until I tasted it. To me, Narien’s Yunnan Golden Tips has a slightly smoky taste to it, which I was then able to identify as similar to the aroma. I’m not implying that this comes anywhere near the bold, in your face smokiness of a Lapsang Souchong, but it is ever so lightly reminiscent. It is very smooth and leaves a hint of aftertaste that I find very appealing. I enjoyed this very much on its own as the addition of sweetener and/or cream didn’t seem necessary, although it is probably strong enough to hold up to either or both well. The leaves held up quite well for a second infusion. The smokiness seemed a little more pronounced in the aroma than in the taste on the second cup. This is a delicious cup that is just different enough from similar brands that I would certainly recommend it.
