necessiteas-chocolate-coconut-lime.jpgI have to admit I had mixed emotions about this tea from the start. The name and ingredient list sounded too interesting to pass up. But when it came right down to actually trying it, it never quite seemed like the right time for a tea this adventurous. Having a little extra time to devote to a review today, it finally seemed like a good time to give this one a try. My sample is full of fairly large pieces of coconut mixed in with the mostly small black leaves. I looked, but can't say that I could actually identify the cocoa nibs or lime visually, but it is safe to say that when I opened the bag and went in for the whiff test, there was no denying that lime was indeed going to be a huge contributor.

Once brewed, I wasn't really able to distinguish any aroma other than the lime. I tried this tea first with just a bit of turbinado and my best description would be that it is an interesting blend. The lime, as I expected is the strongest component of the flavor and in fact, with just the sweetener, I was hard pressed to taste much of anything else. The Necessities website recommends adding a bit of milk, so I tried that next. The milk did tone down the lime the tiniest bit and allowed the slightest taste of the chocolate to make a presence. With the large pieces of coconut in my sample, I really anticipated it being more of a contributor, but I was never able to come up with much, if any, coconut flavor. The black tea base that is used is very mellow and appears to serve only as a somewhat blank canvas on which the lime makes its artistic statement.

All in all, while I still find this blend interesting, I feel pretty confident in saying that this tea would most likely be appreciated most by those who consider themselves huge fans of lime.
