Moroccan Mint is a fairly well-known blend of gunpowder green tea and mint leaves. Depending on your source, the mint in your Moroccan Mint tea can be peppermint, spearmint, or perhaps both. In this case, it is peppermint that is blended with the gunpowder tea. Visually speaking, this tea is fairly heavy on the mint, being, in my best estimate, roughly 70-80% mint leaves by volume. I brewed this tea using steaming water and a steep time of ~ 3 minutes. My kitchen had a nice minty aroma to it during the infusion. Based on my previous experiences with Moroccan Mint teas, I was expecting a slightly smoky mint tea. However, with this tea, the flavor is almost entirely mint, and a really strong and clean mint at that. Besides the slightest kick of astringency at the rear of the sip, I really couldn't taste any contribution from the gunpowder. Given that mint leaves comprised a very large proportion of the tea, I guess it's not too surprising that what little gunpowder was present in the mix was overpowered. I brewed this tea on a damp and overcast day, which I thought perfect for staying indoors and enjoying a smoky-minty brew. Naturally, I was disappointed with this tea because although it is quite delicious as mint teas go, the mint steals the show and refuses to share the limelight with the gunpowder. My experience with Moroccan Mint tea is fairly limited, but still I do know that there are better versions of this classic blend out there, and many at better prices (one ounce of this stuff sells for $3.49). Bottom line: This tea can pass as a peppermint-only tea; green tea lovers will surely wish the gunpowder's contribution was much more noticeable.
