Katie’s Teaview Snapshot

Never before had I seen green tea leaves like the ones that graced the cup of tea I am currently drinking. Zhi tea describes the leaves as "gorgeous twisted, downy, light coloured needles," and that is a perfect description. The leaves are beautiful and unique, but that doesn't necessarily mean the flavour of the tea will follow suite. The website also says this tea is delicate yet bursting with flavour, which is a pretty lofty claim. Unfortunately, I got the delicate out of this tea, but not the bursting with flavour part. In the end, the flavour of this tea is mundane compared to how incredible the leaves look. It is light and delicate, and the flavour does not come across as very exciting or unique. This tastes like a lighter version of a Dragonwell tea, which is certainly a good flavour, but not a difficult one to find.
The second steep was pretty on par with the first - almost the same colour and flavour profile, which is always a sign of a good-quality tea. I had hoped to be enamoured with this tea, but I find myself being merely satisfied. I can't complain, but I hoped for more. Zhi tea does have samples of this tea available for purchase, so if you are moved by beautiful-looking teas, perhaps you will find the flavour more alluring than I did.

my sentiments are the same. I found it hard to believe considering the beauty of the leaf!

Alas, it should have said on the package one *heaping* teaspoon per six ounce cup. The tea is so fluffy…
With the right amount of leaf, this tea is really flavorful. I feel bad you missed out on the experience! One of my faves, which is why we carry it!

Part of the problem could also be that some teas age very quickly. If properly packaged, a few last a year, but some start to lose their luster after a few months. I always use a heaping teaspoon, so I wonder if this one was already starting to lose its flavour by the time I got to it.

I am going to agree with Katie and jamie. This is such a beautiful tea, but I found the taste very flat and harsh. I’d be afraid to use a larger quantity. I’m quite willing to blame age.

I also reviewed the tea. I went with a double-sized portion of leaf, and ended up with a pretty good cup. For this tea, 1 tsp is pretty inadequate.
