Thumbs up!"The flavor of this tea is unique, most likely attributable to the uncommon Mountain tea flowers, which seem to impart a lemony-citrus flavor . Overall, though, the anise is the dominant flavor. I would recommend this tea based on its uniqueness alone, but will warn that if you have an aversion to anise, you should probably let this one pass you by."

teasbyvoudouolympus-copy.jpgThis tea has a very unique appearance and looks like no other tea that I have tried before. The blend consists of seeds, pods, bark, and leaves, which according to the Voudou website are Mountain tea flowers, anise, cinnamon, and cloves. If you are not familiar with Mountain Tea, Voudou's website provides some good background information. Because the ingredients represent different consistencies and sizes, you'll want to make sure that you thoroughly mix the blend to be sure that you get all four ingredients in your infusion. Given the ingredients in this tea, it is not surprising that the tea's aroma is one of intense spiciness, particularly from the anise. There is something inviting and appealing about this aroma. I infused 2 teaspoons of the blend in boiling water for about three minutes, producing a pale yellow-amber liquid, similar to the color of apple juice. The flavor, although distinct, was very light in body, almost with a watered-down sensation, which made me wonder if perhaps I should have used an additional scoop or infused for a bit longer. The flavor of this tea is unique, most likely attributable to the uncommon Mountain tea flowers, which seem to impart a lemony-citrus flavor . Overall, though, the anise is the dominant flavor. The tea had a mild and sweet cinnamon finish. Surprisingly, I could not taste the cloves, which usually tend to be a strong ingredient. The citrus and anise flavors had a cleansing effect, leaving my palette and mouth feeling very refreshed. Being an anise fan, I did enjoy this tea, but I don't see it being a tea I would drink on a regular basis. Still, it does satisfy as a unique herbal blend and could be worth keeping around for this reason. I would recommend this tea based on its uniqueness alone, but will warn that if you have an aversion to anise, you should probably let this one pass you by. On a last note, this tea is only available in Canada, and is a bit on the pricy side, costing nearly $30 for a 100-cup portion.
