"The name says it all! Black tea is blended with chocolate and strawberry flavor, accented with white and milk chocolate chips topped off with dried strawberries." ---The Necessiteas website.I am always excited to try new blends from The Necessiteas as I do love flavored tea blends when they are well done and The Necessiteas has a great track record with me. I have a cupboard full of tins from there and some of blends from there are among my absolute favorites. My sample package, which I ordered directly from The Necessiteas, a nice amount of chocolate chips (both white and milk chocolate) as well as some dried strawberry pieces.
I infused the blend in water that had been brought to a full boil and allowed to cool down just a bit for 4-5 min. The resulting cup is actually quite good. I have tried a number chocolate-strawberry blends from other tea companies and often the result goes a little awry. Very often, tea companies use a really crappy black tea base that bitters very easily and the flavors used taste very artificial and fake. Fortunately, that is not the case with this cup. I would say that the strawberry is the primary flavor in this cup, and it is complemented by a subdued chocolate backdrop. You might notice that this blend leaves a slight oily trace in your tea maker and in your cup that is most likely from the fat that was in the melted chocolate chips. The flavor profile of this cup is not quite as in-your-face as some of the other blends offered by The Necessiteas. It is a bit more subdued and refined. I would call this an elegant cup and one that could be enjoyed most any time of day with the possible exception of right before bed if you are sensitive to caffeine.
This blend in another winner from The Necessiteas. I would not be surprised if a tin of this didn't end up in my tea cupboard at some point (or at minimum another sample ordered). This is nicely done and I also enjoyed this with a splash of fat-free cream and a touch of sugar. Overall, this is worth your consideration.
