I am pretty excited about today's review of Earthbound's Moon Crest tea because it has introduced me to yet another tea company of which I was otherwise unaware. Moon Crest is a China oolong tea whose leaves , according to Earthbound's website, "are gathered twice a year when they are half opened". The leaves are processed by a method called “rattling”, although the website offers no additional information on what rattling might be. These long and slender leaves are really an eyeful; you don't come across dry leaves that look like this very often. The leaves were steeped in just-under-boiling water to produce a golden-colored tea whose fragrance had floral and honey notes to it, with the floral notes being by far more prominent. The flavor of this tea is similar to other floral-tasting oolongs, only a little bit sweeter. Something about this tea makes it stand out, however. Perhaps it is the fact that the flavor is very fresh and clean. The word that keeps coming to mind is authentic; this tea makes me feel a bit closer to the Orient. This tea is not too mild so as to be considered weak, but nor is it an in-your-face brew. This seems an ideal tea for an afternoon refreshment or a lazy Sunday morning. In all, I was very impressed with this tea and would definitely recommend this one to others. The price of this tea ($11 for 4 oz or $19 for 8 oz) is more than fair given this tea's high quality and rarity. Earthbound Tea does seem to have a fairly limited selection of teas to offer, but if you do check out their online store, I would suggest you add Moon Crest to your shopping cart.
