Zhi's Earl Grey Choice is a longer leafed black tea with a few golden leaves here and there, strong and citrusy in the nose with a pleasantly juicy bergamot sweetness.I used 1 tablespoon to 24 ounces of boiling water, steeping for three minutes.
The tea has a full, hearty flavor. It's taste is quite similar to the scenting; sturdy in flavor with a solid bergamot permeating the tea thoroughly, from start to finish of each sip. I am sometimes reminded when drinking tea of four part choral music and to carry on the metaphor, for me, this Earl Grey falls into the bass and tenor section of the choir. The scenting and attendant flavor are not high and light, but rather more heavy and solid, very pleasant.
This tea would make a good choice for those that enjoy a sturdy Earl Grey that isn't too light or perfumey. There's body enough for daily drinking, with good flavor and fragrance. It would start the day nicely for any black tea drinker wanting something besides a straight black tea, and would certainly entertain one with a penchant for Earl Grey.
As a side note for those who can't resist multiple infusions, even with black teas...A second infusion of the same leaves yielded a very weak cup. The best of this tea absolutely comes out in the first infusion.
