"This medium bodied Chinese oolong has the sweet essence of orange, perfect served hot or iced." ---Teas Etc website.Ok, so this one kinda fooled me... I sort of remember checking out the Teas Etc website before I requested the sample to see what this blend was and noted that it was oolong. However, when the sample package came, it resembled a black tea! The 'oolong' pieces are very dark and look like long wiry black tea leaves. Fortunately, I caught this before infusing the leaves as oolong generally requires more careful steeping than black tea leaves. Although this discovery leads me to have a preconceived notion that this might not be the best oolong...
I prepared this with water cut short of boiling and infused the leaves for close to 3 min. My sample package contains little thin orange pieces that I am assuming are little bits of orange rind and has a nice orange aroma to it that reminds me a bit of the aroma of vitamin C. Yea, folks, I think they pushed this one a little too far and it is more of a black tea than an oolong in my humble opinion. The brewed liquid looks more like a black tea than an oolong and it also tastes more like a black than an oolong. It is kind of mild bodied and has a sort of spunky yet mild orange aftertaste that again reminds me of the taste of vitamin C. Unfortunately, it is stretch to find any 'oolong' taste.
While this isn't necessarily bad tasting---as in so gross that I can't finish my cup or something, it is a poor example of an oolong (even a flavored one). It is also not a particularly appealing black tea. So unless you are on the market for an oolong turned mild black tea with a mild vitamin C flavor to it, then I cannot recommend this one. Order their Mango Nut Rooibos if you are looking for something tasty from Teas Etc.

I hope you are correct, in which case, this tea will fit a niche where I (one who doesn’t particularly care for the taste of oolongs in general) can have a tea that has the taste of a black but the health promoting benefits of an oolong. I would go so far as to say that the very name itself indicates that this is the intention of this variety. I too, have a sample packet, which my girlfriend requested with my last order, and I’ll have to taste hers now and see how I feel about it =) … thanks for so many other reviews which have steered me towards some wonderful experiences that I wouldn’t have otherwise found on my own!

Hi Laura,
Thank you for taking the time to cup and review our Orange U Slim oolong.
I wanted to clear up one point, the base tea is definately an oolong. It is highly oxidized (70% to 74% oxidation) Chinese oolong tea.
Thank you again for your reviews.
