"The flavor is sweet overall, consisting of a strong orange flavor that is followed by some unidentafiable-yet-familiar-yet-not-completely-natural flavor, which I now realize must be the cheesecake flavor. It does not taste like cheesecake to me, but I like it nonetheless. "

It has been a long time since I sampled a Necessiteas blend, and seeing as these blends are traditionally unique and tasty, I was looking forward to my sample of Orange Glow. As described on the Necessiteas website, Orange Glow is green tea blended with orange and cheesecake flavors and accented with orange peel and rose petals. Now I must admit that I tasted my sample without prior knowledge of this tea's description, and while I did detect the orange flavor, I have to say that the cheesecake flavor was lost on me. The tea has a sweet citrus aroma that is instantly captivating and uplifting. The name "orange glow" seems appropriate for this tea which, when brewed, is a bit more orange in color than what you might expect from a green tea. The flavor is sweet overall, consisting of a strong orange flavor that is followed by some unidentafiable-yet-familiar-yet-not-completely-natural flavor, which I now realize must be the cheesecake flavor. It does not taste like cheesecake to me, but I like it nonetheless. The rose petals provide nice floral notes and produce a well-rounded cup. I found the floral element neccessary to prevent the cheesecake flavoring from making the tea too sweet. The green tea base is very mild and serves as a backdrop to the flavors; it's actually pretty hard to taste the green tea itself. I sampled this only as an iced tea, and it worked very well as a refreshing cold drink. I imagine that this tea would be okay as a hot drink, but the flavors strike me as something that just work better in iced form. I was able to get two decent infusions out of the leaves, both with equally strong orange and cheesecake flavors. In the second cup, the contribution of the rose petals was milder while the green tea had just the tiniest touch of bitterness to it. At $12.00 for a 4-oz portion, this tea is certainly affordable and worth trying. The Necessiteas continues to impress me with their hand-crafted blends that you just don't see from every other line of tea.
