"What a unique taste! Surprisingly, it was mild, which seems almost impossible and a feat of sorts on Mighty Leaf's part, in my opinion, indicating that their blenders are really on the ball."

Several years ago I visited the Butchart Gardens in Victoria, BC at the height of rose season, and my trip through the rose gardens hangs in my mind, not so much because I like roses (I actually don't particularly like them as a flower since the shrub is so homely most of the year) but because of the high, clear, unmistakable and nearly overpowering scent of the roses. Wow, what an odor! Even for a non rose lover, the scent is so intense and rich and so entirely ROSE in its nature that there's something impressive and possibly intoxicating about it.I'll admit that when I first took a deep, close to the nose inhale of this tea, I was bowled over by the scent, and a little alarmed, too. I mean, it smelled like the rose garden at Butchart, so overwhelmingly ROSE that I could taste it at the back of my throat. My nose was ringing with the scent! Kind of a neat experience, but I was feeling dubious about this particular flavor pairing with a tea, especially a white tea. I brewed the beautifully presented tea, fat and handsome silver needles with an abundance of lovely dark pink rose petals, as I do all white teas...at 185 degrees for about 5 to 7 minutes or so. I considered steeping it a shorter time since the scent was so intense, but it just turned out to steep for the full time. The tea brewed up fragrant as warmed essential oil and wonderfully light in coloration.
Not sure what to think, and trying not to load my mind ahead of time, I took a sip. Rosy, yes. Definitely rosy. But it didn't taste oily, and it wasn't like sipping on grandmother's perfume, either. What a unique taste! Surprisingly, it was mild, which seems almost impossible and a feat of sorts on Mighty Leaf's part, in my opinion, indicating that their blenders are really on the ball. Despite the heady rosy presence of the nose of this tea, the flavor of the tea itself is light, mild, delicately perfumed, and retains a white tea taste that almost magically ends up being a great pairing with the rose.
I've got to say that I was really surprised by this tea, pleasantly so. This would be an awesome tea for the summer time, to pair up with rose season. A kids tea party would be made magical with a tea like this. It's kind of a neat, romantic tea, flavor wise, without any cheesiness to it. It's delightful! I wouldn't consider this an everyday tea, as the flavor is so strong. But it's a very well crafted tea. It's truly worth trying, and don't let the nose frighten you away. Keep your mind open and prepare to be impressed by something very unique.
