tropical_green.jpg"Lush and fresh organic green tea is combined with dried pineapple, papaya and honey to create a transcendent experience. One that evokes images of tropical landscapes and warm, humid temperatures. Enjoy this as a respite from your busy life. Can infuse multiple times." --- Tea Guys website.

I've been postponing reviewing this sample for a couple of weeks now waiting for the mood for this tea to hit me. A friend of mine just got back from SW Florida and sent me pics of her trip. I used to live there and it made me miss the place;-( It doesn't help that it is freezing here in Michigan tonight and I had to turn on the heat a little bit ago. However, her pics put me in a tropical kind of mood so I decided to steep this up.

My sample package lists the ingredients as organic green tea, dried pineapple, natural flavors, cornflowers. The loose tea smells very pineapple and I think I detect a slight papaya aroma too. The cornflowers do add a pleasing to the eye component. I also see little pieces of candied pineapple. I got busy looking at my mail and oversteeped this by almost two whole minutes. However, this did not bitter a bit. I think I like this best with just a pinch of rock cane sugar as it brings out the sweetness a bit, but not too much. The taste is nice and tropical as promised. I definitely get more pineapple flavor than papaya. The green tea base is subtle and not vegetable tasting. This is the great base for this type of tea.

I also tried this chilled and I am willing to bet that I will place an order for this when it is iced tea season again. Maybe because I steeped it too long, but my second infusion was pretty weak in terms of offering much flavor. I think Kari hit the nail on the head in her review when she suggested making the first infusion iced and drinking the second infusion hot. Both are good, but an ice cube can do a lot of damage to a weakly flavored tea. If you are in the market for a tropical (primarily pineapple) tasting green tea, then this is a good choice. You may also consider Tea Guys Papaya Ginger White, which is actually a blend of green and white teas. I think I might lean towards liking that one a little better than this.
