teaspotvintageoolong"Our Vintage Oolong is a pure Taiwanese, single–estate, medium–bodied oolong. With a sweet, nutty flavor, this tea captures the subtlety of what amazing, full–leaf tea should taste like. Hints of ripe apricots and lilacs combine to produce a tender, timeless green oolong; hence the name! This tea yields a bright, amber liquor and should be re–steeped multiple times. Each successive steeping will unveil new flavors & aromas, until the leaves are fully opened. Delicate, refined, and understated - this is the true connoisseur’s tea!" ---The Tea Spot website.

Ok, I know I do this every time that I review an oolong, but I LOVE oolong. I crave it sometimes in the same way that people crave potato chips or ice cream. Sometimes I just gotta have it and nothing else will do. Anyway, I really, really love oolong and especially green oolong so I was very excited to try this and especially after reading the description of it. One thing that I found interesting about The Tea Spot's website is that it actually features recipes for this oolong! In particular, there are recipes for Fragrant Rice and a Veggie Oolong Frittata! Anybody wanna invite me over for dinner and try them out?

My sample package contains little green fists that are typical of this type of oolong and it smells rather floral and fruity. The aroma sort of reminds me of the smell of bananas! Yes, I said bananas. I prepared this in water that was steaming but cut well short of boiling for 3 min. The resulting cup is very floral and rather delicate and mild. The banana aroma that I detected a bit in the aroma of the dry leaves is gone and I do not taste anything that reminds me of bananas, but I would also say that the apricot is fairly prevalent if you look for it on your palate. This one is ever-so-slightly drying on your tongue as well. Calling this on nutty is a bit of a stretch but there is an ever so slight nutty flavor, but you really have to work to notice it.

My second infusion was more delicate and a bit less sweet with the most prominent notes being floral in nature. I do think these leaves will give up a delicate third infusion, but I am guessing they would be retired at that point. This oolong is a fairly enjoyable cup. This is definitely more for people like me who prefer the greener oolongs. It is very floral and also offers a nice fruity component. People who find floral teas to be syrupy in nature would probably want to stay clear of this one as this one has a natural sweetness to it that when combined with floral can come across a little syrupy. Overall, this is a good choice that is reasonably priced. I can't call this a favorite, but it definitely worth consideration.
