mightyleafwhitepeonyBackground:
This is my first taste of Mighty Leaf teas. I have been so busy that the samples sent several weeks ago have been waiting. Well tonight I have the time to sit down and write. The samples come in a professional looking container with a nice quantity. Unfortunately the bag does not seal so other storage is required. The leaves are well intact with very little crushed or crumbled leaves.

The scent is muted. I had hoped (expected) for a stronger scent. I dug out a White Peony from another tea company to compare. The other sample had a stronger in scent but there is definite similarity between the two.

Brewing:
I used about two teaspoons for 12 ounces of water and steeped for about three and a half minutes. The water had not fully boiled and I let it set for about 2 minutes before steeping.

Taste/Impressions:
Initially while hot the scent is very delicate and light. I enjoyed it. Even though it is light it carries an earthy quality I find very pleasing. The scent really picks up as the tea cools off a bit. I would recommend not using full boiled water, as that will be too hot. Also, let the tea cool just a few minutes before drinking. The tea though very warm (bordering on hot) tastes nicer.
The first taste while hot is light, very light, delicate, with the same earthy quality. Also, while hot the taste is very short lived in the mouth. It surprises me how quickly it comes and goes. The taste on the tongue has clear hints or chocolate. Of all the white teas I have tried this has the chocolatiest taste. Sweetness comes out as I swallow and remains for a short time on the tongue. As with the smell as the tea cools the taste becomes stronger and longer. The sweetness grows as the tea cools from the brewing temperature.
I am surprised at how different the taste character changes are as the tea cools. This tea has three distinct taste characteristics. As the tea cools further it shortens up again and the sweetness decreases. A bit of bitterness creeps into the taste. All in all I feel somewhat uncertain about the tea.
Conclusion:
A very interesting white tea that comes alive as it cools a bit. Strong chocolate elements with earthy and nutty tones. I find the tea perplexing. At times I find the taste very appealing and while hot and cooler I am mostly ambivalent. This tea is better than some samples but falls short of the finest examples of White Peony.
