gypsytea-coconut-chai.jpgI had high hopes for this tea as coconut and chai are both favorites of mine. I decided to take this one to work with me since it came in little sachets so that I could enjoy it as a little pick-me-up after lunch. I went out to Zhena's website to check it out and see if there were any brewing instructions. I didn't find those, but I did find some other interesting seasonal teas out there that I would like to try including: caramel apple, pumpkin spice and chocolate chai. She offers both loose teas and the tea sachets on her website.

Zhena lists the ingredients for this tea as follows: Indian black tea, org. cinnamon, org. ginger, org. cardamom pods, org. whole cloves, organic orange peels, org. nutmeg, org. black pepper, organic cinnamon essential oil, organic coconut flavor.

She also mentions that :
Cinnamon Heightens Contentment
Ginger Aids in Digestion
Clove Enhances Comfort

I had to use hot water from the coffee maker for this which I allowed to cool before steeping this tea. I have a 16 oz cup so I used two bags and steeped them for about 4 minutes. I will say that it is a pretty good spiced chai black tea. It is a mild spice that is really nice because it doesn't leave your mouth tingling afterward. However, try as I might to find it, I do not taste any coconut in the liquid or the aftertaste. That is a bit of disappointment to me, but still I enjoyed drinking the chai tea.

Since, I didn't find any coconut flavor with the chai, I decided to give it another shot with the 2 remaining sachets in my sample and steep them at home. I cut one of the bags open to examine the tea inside and found what is typical in bag tea--small pieces of this and that. I steeped this one with water that is short of boiling for about 3.5 minutes and added a little sugar to see if that would bring out the coconut for me. Still couldn't find it.

I did enjoy this cup of tea. I liked the nice mild spice of the chai. However, I did not find the coconut so I probably wouldn't buy this if I were looking for a coconut chai.
