"This lightly oxidized oolong tea from the mountainous region of Nantou, Taiwan, has a smooth golden green infusion enjoyed by green tea lovers. Its flowery aroma, brisk flavor, smooth body and fruity finish make this one of our favorite oolong. Always fresh, this is one of customer favorites. The prime lots of this tea are selected each spring and winter for us by our long-term grower in Nantou, Jade Oolong one of our consistent favorites from Taiwan." --- Rishi website.I am starting to develop a taste for green oolongs thanks in part to a tea friend, that is self-professed oolong snob, and has been kind enough to share a tsp or three of various oolongs in her stash. This Jade Oolong consists of very tightly twisted up leaves that create little leaf nuggets, if you will... In the sample package, it smells vegetal and slightly floral. I used a little less than a teaspoon of this and infused it for a little over 3 minutes in water short of boiling. This is a bit like green tea and careful steeping is required both in terms of time and water temperature to ensure that it is not burnt anywhere along the way. Oolongs such as this are often a little pricey, but offer multiple infusions, which reduces the price per cup.
This steeped up to a light yellow-green color. The aroma is a little vegetal and pretty floral. It tastes very delicate and smooth. It has a natural sweetness, or fruitiness, which makes this delicious. This requires no sweetener. While I often find vegetal and floral teas to not be my thing, this is different--it is amazing. The floral aspect is what dominates here, but in a delicate pleasant way (not all in your facel). The vegetal taste is very subdued and just adds to the complexity in the taste of this oolong. If you were to assign a sex to oolong, this would be a girl--delicate, soft, floral and sweet. I was impressed with the second infusion of this as well because it held on to its flavor pretty well. Also by the end of the second steeping, the leaves had unfurled to mammoth proportions, making me realize that I had used too much. With oolong, most often you get what you pay for, and this one is worthy of your consideration.
