I have never tried honeybush tea, but have always been curious. I was very excited to check this chocolate honeybush out, especially since the chocolate notes were dark chocolate, aka, my favorite. The Institute for Traditional Medicine explains honeybush as: is indigenous to the cape of South Africa. It is used to make a beverage and a medicinal tea, having a pleasant, mildly sweet taste and aroma, somewhat like honey. It has become internationally known as a substitute for ordinary tea. With the dramatic growth in the use of honeybush during the past five years, export of honeybush tea products is now a major industry.
That being said, the tea smells absolutely delicious. Full of rich chocolate and honey. The flavor is heavier on the honey side with notes of chocolate and caramel. My roommate who isn't a tea drinker even commented on how good it smelled.Local Coffee and Tea says there is also some yogurt mixed in here. I didn't pick up on that. Since I didn't see specific instructions on the site, I brewed my normal 3 minutes in the tea pot. I added a little raw sugar since I felt the addition of honey would have been too much in this blend. It was great. Definitely something I will pick up for myself in the future.
