Zhena's Gypsy Teas always intrigue me, however, they have been hit or miss with me in my past reviews. This coconut chai was an abosolute hit with me. It comes in a couture sachet that you can simply put in your tea pot. I got two 12 ounce cups from one sachet. I always love when you can get more than one infusion with teas, not only for the different flavor profiles, but also for the value.This tea is part of Zhena's "Aromatherapeutic" line, and as far as I can tell, they are trying to evoke the feeling of lounging on a bright beach with this tea. The smell of toasted coconut is dominant on the nose along with some clove and cardamom. I couldn't easily detect the ginger. As far as flavor this is a creamy and rich tea. The flavor of the coconut is as real as I have ever had in a tea.
I brewed this tea a bit differently than the web site recommends. I decided to steam some milk with cinnamon and nutmeg to add to this tea in order to give it a bit more of a chai latte effect. Very good, I filled the cup about half way with my milk and spice mixture, the rest with tea. My friend who I shared with preferred a splash of milk and more of a strong black tea flavor. All in all this has to be one of my favorites. Just make sure you are a coconut, specifically toasted coconut lover before you try this.
