The dry leaves provide that sweet aroma of burning cloves tinged with the natural scent of currants. Most of the healthy scent is maintained post-steep, although it presents itself in a coarser fashion, as though tossed in a garden. In this sense - and only in this sense - the nature of the tea is tinted with a green hue.The beverage itself does provide a bit of a sharp flavor. Despite this and undertones of a darker, rougher flavoring, the overall presentation is on par with a sharp black currant tea. As nothing is added to enhance or detract from the inherent properties, the blend is an honest one. As a result, the assessment does not revolve around the proportions, which are successfully balanced, but around the quality of the black tea.
Fortunately, the quality of these leaves is solid. It dances a bit high on the sharpness scale for my personal tastes, but I can't deny that it's an enjoyable drink. It doesn't quite hit that extreme note offered by peppered teas or bold chai, but it is still a little bit punchier than I'd prefer for a black currant. Altogether, I'd claim this as a fair attempt and a tasty result. It's not perfectly suited to my tastes, but it is enjoyable nonetheless.
