"The cup is good sans milk or prepared latte style so if you are one that takes milk in your tea, then you might experiment with this blend."

"The combination of Organic Rooibos with Organic Lemon Myrtle makes this healthy blend an outstanding tisane that has a pleasing citrus flavor and is delicious served either hot or iced." ---Simpson & Vail website. One thing that I always try to do when I review tea is select one that fits my mood. I actually have a lemon rooibos blend in my stash that is kind of a lemon creme and is quite excellent and I was tempted to make a cup of it, but I really wanted to do a tea review tonight as I have been a bit of a slacker lately. Then I remembered that this blend was amongst my samples and decided to go ahead and prepare a couple of cups for review---one hot and one iced per Simpson & Vail's recommendation. My sample package contains red rooibos with a nice amount of lemon myrtle disbursed throughout. It smells rather lemony and reminds me a bit of what I would guess a box of lemon Trix cereal would smell like. I prepared the cup according to the directions on the website, which calls for boiling water and a 4 min infusion.
Hot cup: Red rooibos and lemon flavors seem to pair nicely. This cup has a nice amount of natural sweetness to it and only a tiny amount of sugar is needed to enhance the flavor profile. The flavor profile is not unlike that of lemon Trix cereal and has bit of zip to it. Yea, ok, it does slightly remind me of Lemon Pledge, but not in a over-the-top kind of way. The ingredients taste fresh and overall the cup is pleasant. Perhaps due to my love affair with my lemon creme rooibos blend that I have in my personal stash, I decided to add a bit of milk to this see if what the creaminess might add to the cup. I found that the milk softened the zip of the lemon a bit. The cup is good sans milk or prepared latte style so if you are one that takes milk in your tea, then you might experiment with this blend.
Iced cup: Surprisingly, I found that the iced cup was a little ho-hum. That is not to say that there is anything wrong with it, but really how many lemon iced tea blends are out there? The cup tastes pleasing (if you enjoy rooibos iced---and I do) and the lemon myrtle makes a great natural lemon flavor. However, I ultimately just preferred this blend prepared hot.
Overall, this blend is certainly tasty and the ingredients seem fresh, which gets this major brownie points. While this doesn't unseat the lemon creme rooibos blend in my stash as my personal favorite lemon rooibos blend of all time, this one is indeed worth your consideration. Further, at the time of this review, this blend was on sale for $7.55 for a 4 oz. Not a bad deal.
