Banana tea is one of things that can really go sideways in a hurry in terms of the gross factor. In fact, I have only tried a few banana teas and most of them have not been winners. However, since I do actually love bananas and occasionally enjoy banana chips as a snack, I decided to give this one a shot. Lucky, for me this one was surprisingly good.
This blend contains green tea leaves that are not unlike small grass clippings visually, banana chips and a strong aroma of bananas and cream. I prepared this in water that was steaming but not boiling, and infused this for about 3 min. The leaves produce a cup that is golden green in color. The flavor is a bit reminiscent of banana candy or probably more accurately candied banana chips with a touch of cream. A bit of rock cane sugar enhances the flavor profile and makes the cup a bit more dessert like. While the flavor profile is pretty developed, you can still find glimmers of the mild green tea base as you drink the cup. I wasn't too sure initially if green tea was a good base for this type of a flavor profile, but it does work. I like the addition of the cream flavor to this blend as I think it would be a bit blah without it. It adds some nice interest and makes you think of Banana Cream Pie. I've not been in the habit of adding milk to my green tea, but this blend kinda begs for it and I have to say it is darn good that way.
Once again, The Necessiteas has come up with a tasty blend that has called my conventional wisdom when it comes to flavors and tea into questioning. This is well done and makes having a cup of green tea a decadent experience. If you love bananas, then this is one you should add to your shopping cart when ordering from The Necessiteas.
