It has been a hot muggy day and true to Washington, everyone seems to be rather grumpy. And since I work in customer service, it seems as though I was getting the brunt of it. And to make matters worse, I have had a toothache all day. So I was really looking forward to a tea that would take me away. Zhi’s Tropical Green was just what the doctor ordered.This is a gorgeous tea that appeals to all the senses. This is a beautiful Sencha of a dark green color interspersed with chucks of papaya and pineapple. And let’s not forget the color added by the rose petals, calendula and safflowers. The scent is pure tropics with the pineapple and mango coming on strong with just a hint of rose. I am not able to catch any scent of the tea itself though.
Zhi labels their teas with very precise brewing instructions and they recommend 175 to 185 degrees for 3 minutes. However as I don’t have a thermometer or a timer, I just used my Zarafina set for green tea and medium strength. Now I did say that this is a tea that delights all of the senses. It brews up a light golden color and now I am able to pick up a slight grassy scent as the smell of the tropical fruit has really backed off. My first sip I am not able to catch any taste of the papaya or pineapple but as it cools the taste becomes more tropical. I have to admit that I rather new to green teas but I think that I am in love.
This is the first time I have sampled a tea from Zhi but it will not be the last. I really appreciate their policy of using only organic ingredients and Fair Trade teas whenever possible. Their website is a delight to get around and I already have a list of teas that I want to try out. And their shipping is really reasonable as they offer same day shipping for free if your order is over $75 and only $4.95 otherwise.
